About The Library Media Center
The Dixie Elementary School Library Media Center (LMC) is a very busy place. All classes visit the LMC weekly for a story-time and/or an information literacy lesson and to check out books.
Our Mission
Our Mission is to assist members of the Dixie Elementary School (DES) community in becoming effective seekers and users of information, to foster a love of reading, and to build a foundation for lifelong learning.
In collaboration with the school’s learning community, the library will provide support for teaching and learning by providing access to a quality collection and technologies.
Our Schedule
Our library is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Each class visits the library once a week for a 45-minute lesson and book exchange during these hours. Open Access is available daily from 2:25 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every Friday. This allows students and teachers to use library resources and receive assistance from the media specialist.

Library Collection

Follett Destiny Library Manager, an automated circulation system, is used district-wide, which enables each RCSD library access to the library collections at all schools in the district through inter-library loans. Destiny can be accessed from anywhere, 24/7, helping to strengthen the essential bond between the library, the classroom, and home.

About Mrs. McGee
In 2003, I began my career teaching second grade in my hometown of Port St. Joe, Florida. I remained in second grade for the next fourteen years acquiring Florida certification in Library Media as my passion for children's literature grew stronger.
In 2014, I felt the need to pursue a role in leadership. I returned to school to obtain my masters degree and education specialist degree in PreK-12 Education Administration from Auburn University. While pursuing these degrees, I transitioned from second grade to sixth and seventh grade teaching English Language Arts receiving Teacher of the Year in 2017.
In the next phase of my career, I had the opportunity to lead as assistant principal and principal in different school systems for several years. After more than two decades in education and serving in six school districts in Florida and Alabama, I felt the desire to pursue my first love of teaching, encouraging students to develop a love of reading by becoming a library media specialist.
